Why Write a Blog for SEO?

First of all, what is blog? It refers to the practice of creating and sharing ideas in writing and posting them on your website regularly. The purpose of writing a blog is to help improve search engine rankings through keyword research, link building, images, and content writing.


Blogging is an On-Page SEO strategy that helps boost SEO quality by positioning your website as a relevant answer to a potential customer’s question.



Why does blogging help with SEO?


It increases your visibility in organic search

When you share relevant content with more keywords than your competitors do, you can improve organic clicks. It is also a great way to interact with your audience as blogs have the potential to answer questions, provide information, and offer ideas to your readers, which can get them to gain interest in doing business with you.


It establishes your website’s credibility

Internal links are key for this. When you link from one page on your site to another, you’re creating a clear path for users to follow. This will make it easier for your visitors to find the content they need on your site. When you create a blog and add a link to another blog, it helps you build trust and boost sales and leads.


It builds your website’s authority over time

When other websites link to pages on your own website, it shows search engines that your content is useful and authoritative. This is known as backlinks. If your blog gets backlinks from other sites, your website is more likely to rank higher on search results. Blogs are a great way of getting backlinks because their purpose is to educate and inform users, so they tend to attract more people.


However, keeping your blog updated with new information is not easy. Here are some tips that may help you:


Identify your target audience

Even though you may write blogs to boost your SEO, keep in mind that you’re writing for humans, not search engines. This will help you choose topics to write about as you need to think of your audience’s motivations, their challenges, their needs and their interests. Sharing high quality blogs will improve your chances of ranking.


Include keywords

For this, you need to start by doing some keyword research. You need to identify what users are searching for and how popular those queries are. Once you have that figured out, you can start implementing your keywords into your writing, but make sure to do so in a natural way. It’s always a good idea to do constant research on keywords, because they can evolve over time as trends shift and terminology changes. Also, if you ever run low on ideas, you can always get inspiration from your competitors!


Design a link-building strategy

By including links to other pages in your blog, you help search engines find your content more easily. You can reference pages from your own website, or from another respectable websites, as this will make your content more trustworthy in the eyes of Google, which will then make you rise further up in ranking.

A Note From the Author

As a business owner, brand strategist, and graphic designer I run in to questions and ideas every day.

As the owner of Norris Design, I started out wanting to solely be a designer, but education changed the way I thought, the way I viewed business and the way I viewed my role in helping other's businesses.  

Graphic design will always be my original love, but as I grew in knowledge, I realized the small view of design for the sake of something beautiful was such a disservice to businesses.

Businesses needed much more than just graphic design.  They needed to see the bigger picture of their businesses from the perspective of a designer.  Once I realized that branding had a huge role in large businesses that see amazing success but very few small businesses even think about branding or brand strategy, I realized that if I could offer a brand strategy view as a consultant rather than just an order taker graphic designer, I could actually move the needle in their businesses.

This is the beginning of where I started to fall in love with business, marketing, branding, brand strategy, consulting and brand building. 

It all started with education after college.

I obsessively read articles, listened to podcasts, watched videos, read books, and took classes.  This was to fulfill this desire to be more involved in the businesses side of design rather than just design alone.

So, this is why I wright. I appreciate other people's perspective and I hope that one day, mine can help someone else.
